My Approach

A Space to Understand Yourself More Deeply.

We need relationships to see, feel, understand, and come to know ourselves. Psychotherapy involves being in relationship. Over time, many of the things that you experience with me may reflect something of what you experience in your other relationships. What is most unresolved finds a way of coming alive between us, which gives us an opportunity to explore and work with it in real time.

Therapeutic Approach

My orientation to practice places great emphasis on the relationship that evolves between us. It becomes an important part of how we come to understand you.

The ways you relate to me can tell us something about how you experience relationships and other aspects of your life. Together we can learn more about begin to understand some of the unconscious influences that shape what you feel, how you relate, and the things that you do. When we deeply understood and felt by another person, a space opens and healing becomes possible.

The symptoms we experience can offer a language for understanding the unconscious if we listen closely. Our symptoms have stories to tell that can help us to understand ourselves more deeply. Because of this, I do not generally give advice, homework, or behavioural strategies. Rather than telling you what to do, I will listen to you and together we will get acquainted with the rhythm of your emotional and relational experiences.

When we have the freedom to explore whatever comes to mind, a different kind of space can develop – one in which we can come to know and be present with parts of ourselves that may otherwise remain outside of our awareness. Sharing on this level with another person can feel frightening or unfamiliar, but it also has the potential to be a deeply meaningful and transformative experience.

About Me

I am a Registered Social Worker with over 20 years’ experience, 15 of those in direct clinical practice providing psychotherapy.

I am a Registered Social Worker with over 20 years’ experience, 15 of those in direct clinical practice providing psychotherapy. My practice is based in Whitehorse, Yukon, with virtual psychotherapy available in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Nunavut.

My work has become increasingly shaped by psychoanalytic thinking and by an interest in the less conscious dimensions of psychological life. Rather than understanding symptoms simply as problems to be fixed, I am interested in what they may communicate about a person’s history, relationships, internal world, and ways of adapting to experience.

I have extensive training in working with shock and developmental trauma and an interest in integrating depth models of psychotherapy with somatically informed approaches that focus on embodiment and relationship. I place value on curiosity and exploration, allowing the unexpected to emerge where it can.

My personal and professional interest in psychoanalysis has been shaped by my own experience of therapy and analysis over many years. I believe that to be deeply present and available to others, and to support the depth of the psychotherapeutic process, I must also be willing to continually explore this terrain within myself.
